Your monthly recap of all things Buildapalooza is back again with this latest issue of the Build Night Break Down. We’ve got all bases covered with prizes and builds galore. There’s a lot to cover as usual so let’s get a move on already!
First though, for those new or wishing to come along to one of our build nights, here’s the quick word. Buildapalooza is PerthLUG’s regular social event where on the second Monday of the month we bring along a Lego set and just build and socialise. We’re a friendly bunch from all walks of life. It’s just $5 for non-members to help keep the lights on. More details at the bottom of the page.
Ok, and we’re back and off to the races with Monday’s Members’ Prize. Another month and another SIX Lego giveaways. Really now, this is getting out of hand! All these prizes and none of them MY number! I mean to say… what an amazing haul and I’m so happy to announce the worthy winners. Jokes aside, some tremendous prizes in there and our sincere congratulations to these lucky folks!

We also had an extra special Bonus Raffle; a totally optional draw anyone can enter with tickets limited to only 100 numbers. When I say ‘special’ I mean it. For your $5 ticket you had the chance to win the absolutely epic Natural History Museum 10326. What a monster modular, with quite the tidy price tag to match I might add! And what a deserving winner in Graeme P. The smile says it all – I think disbelief mostly. Congrats again Graeme!
The Parts Draft lot was at it again with this month’s set-for-the-slaughter, the Creator 3-in1 T.Rex. Ben returned to us this month to lead the dance and after all was said and done, no part of the cretaceous creature was spared on the sorting table. Did the past two sentences make absolutely no sense to you? I got you. The Parts Draft is a great way to bring along one set and take home bulk-sorted parts for your collection. For more information just follow us over at the PerthLUG Facebook page but in short, it’s a wonderful resource for any MOC builder.
And now for my favourite segment of the Break Down – taking a look at what folks were building! I always have so much fun roaming about the tables and getting lost in conversation. Thanks to everyone below who was willing to graciously share their projects with us.
First off, Tamara brought along two Gifts-with-Purchase sets; 40597 Scary Pirate Island & 40595 Tribute to Galileo Galilei. Both are adorable and had little details I hadn’t noticed before. The Pirate raft is deliberately wobbly – classic. Oh, and the Tribute set has a small mechanism for the Earth to rotate around the Sun! This is why it’s so great to see these built in person.
Dianne’s little Technic monster truck was a wild little beast. I have to admit, I’m not sure if it’s going to make it to the grandkids Dianne because I was having too much fun myself with the pull-back function. It really goes!
And something I had been hoping to see out in the wild, The Avengers Assemble from the Marvel Age of Ultron movie. What an epic hero-shot captured really quite well in brick form. And those minifigs: I’m jealous Jack!
Another reason for my roaming is to see classic sets like Steve’s 8288 Crawler Crane. It’s not unusual to see folks bring older sets they’ve been working on restoring and this one’s a real beauty. Still holds up I reckon.
And finally, stealing the show and my precious little heart had to be Helen’s little Gizmo MOC/adaptation from Gremlins. Instagram and Rebrickable can be such wonderful resources and inspirations for us folk and I’m so glad Helen brought this little critter in. Just, ah, don’t feed it after midnight please!
And that’s it. We’re done here. Another issue of the Build Night Break Down is done and dusted but hey, if you’re interested in coming to one of our build nights, Buildapalooza is back again next month as usual on the second Monday. That’s the 14th of October at our normal time and place; 7-11pm at John McGrath Pavilion off Hensman St, South Perth. Everyone is absolutely welcome and we hope to catch you all then!
