The January 2024 wave brings us 6 new Technic sets, all in the smaller range. I know a lot of builders prefer the large sets, but I do have appreciation for the small ones as a budget-friendly build. As we’ve seen before, a part count is not a determining factor for the enjoyment of a set. Being limited by the piece count often means the designers have to come up with clever techniques to get the most functions in a restricted space. And the sets often make for a great MOC feeder, as some of the smallest Technic sets have the highest amount of alternate MOCs listed on Rebrickable, with 42102-1 Mini CLAAS XERION clocking in at 258, 8290-1 Mini Forklift has 206 and 42093-1 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 comes with 135 alternates.
