The January Buildapalooza has already come and gone but if you missed out on 2024’s first Build Night then I’ve got you covered with this issue of the Break Down.

It was yet another super turnout so a big thanks to all who turned up and our wonderful volunteers who make it all happen. To those new here, Buildapalooza is PerthLUG’s regular catch-up where on the second Monday of the month we get together to talk Lego, build Lego and just enjoy everything that is little plastic bricks. You can bring along a little set to build, sort through some bulk or work on a MOC. It’s really pretty chill. For your $5 entry we also have wonderful door prizes too!

This month we had FIVE door prizes including 2x Disney Duos sets, Creator Exotic Parrot, Christmas Decor Set (Thanks Judy!) and the adorable Red Dragon 3-in-1. And back due to popular demand, 2024 sees the return of our completely optional special raffles for an extra couple bucks. Kicking us off for the new year we gave away the lovely Tranquil Garden set – certainly pretty special to my eye. Ooh, I wonder what sets we have lined up for next month? Well, I guess I have to wait and see but in the meantime let us congratulate all our January winners!!

Happy Winners (Left to right): Ben, Tadgh, Cody, Kelly & Tyron!

The Parts Draft returned alongside our raffles and this month’s sacrificial set was the brand new colourful Exotic Peacock 31157. For those new or out of the loop, the Parts Draft is a great way to bring along one set and take home bulk sorted parts. For more information just follow us over at the PerthLUG Facebook page but in short, it’s a wonderful resource for any novice or master builder. New for 2024 was setting up in a dedicated room besides the main hall to conduct the sacred ritual.

Speaking of expansion, hiring out this second hall not only provided more elbow room for our bigger numbers but also a quieter building space for folks. In this, our tenth year of PerthLUG, Richie said it best in his reflections on Monday night that it’s thanks to our regular and paid members that we are able to continue to grow and cater for our Lego-loving community. We’ve certainly come a long, long way that’s for sure. And if you want to become a (completely optional) paid member, 2024 applications are still open til end of February.

For those holding out for a sticky beak at the Lego actually bulit last night, I managed to snap a small sample of the room. Thanks to eveyone for tolerating the weird guy sticking a camera in their face. A particualrly special thanks to Kat, Peter, Kayleigh, Bek and Lande for sharing us your wonderful builds.

There’s always so much going on at Buildapalooza that’s for sure. 2024 is looking to be even more awesome. If you’d like to join us, all are welcome and we meet on the second Monday evening of each month. That will make February’s build night on the 12th at our normal time and place; 7-11pm at John McGrath Pavilion off Hensman st, Como. Can’t wait to see everyone there!
