Despite being announced over four years ago, nothing has come from the partnership between the LEGO Group and Universal Pictures to create new big-screen LEGO® movies. Following the deal ending with Warner Bros. in 2020, the LEGO Group signed a new 5-year deal with Universal to bring all-new LEGO stories to cinemas. Since then, any news has been rather light. Last year, there was a brief mention that a new LEGO film could be a live-action/animated hybrid. Now the LEGO Group’s Head of Global Entertainment, Jill Wilfert has spoken to Variety about the 10th anniversary of the LEGO Movie, the upcoming Pharrell Williams biopic ‘Piece by Piece’. During the chat, it was confirmed that the LEGO Group and Universal are still working on something despite the deals set to end in 2025. Since the LEGO Movie was released it changed LEGO fandom and propelled the brand to an even wider audience. So it will be interesting to see what a new film can offer. Read the full interview here.
