Sets featuring LEGO® brick recreations of plants and flowers have really started to bloom. After featuring in several visually impressive sets, flowers are the focus of an upcoming gift-with-purchase set. The Flower Trellis Display includes a trio of plants, potted in a small wall-mountable trellis. Ahead of its availability on April 1st, here’s an advanced look at the set.

As parts of the world welcome the start of Spring, new life is starting to emerge as plants and flowers awaken. The colourful display many plants will offer is the focus of this new promotional set. Built across five bags, the set includes a wicker basket-style planter trough with a grid-like wall, clad in colourful brick-built blooms. The build process begins with the trough. Although this is a fairly small section, it has a surprisingly complex build. The use of bow pieces to replicate the woven texture of a basket exterior is expertly done. The internal section of this part of the set not only acts as the base of that neat-looking outer detail, it also anchors the wall section. This is made up of four griddle plates, and although used as flooring in other sets, they provide the necessary grid-like backdrop for the flowers to climb.

The plants and flowers are added to the trellis backdrop in two stages. The green stalks are connected directly to the trellis by pairs of pin plates. The stalks are crafted from Technic connector elements, which are mainly featured in two different shades of green, although there are some black pieces which are very visable. These are dotted with connector pegs which become the connection points for adding some extra foliage and the three different types of flowers. These are probably inspired by real species of plants but what they are is currently unknown. Despite the set not being part of the official Botanical Collection, it still uses LEGO elements in unique ways. The first is three small yellow buds encased in white shells with a small green leaf. These use both egg elements and shell-like crowns to mimic a bud. Then there are a pair of purple and pink flowers. I found these the most fiddly to build as the petals are clipped to frame which is a repurposed Sonic gold ring. Due to how this is mounted to a bowl elements it does will be quite brittle but once everything is connected and it’s mounted onto the trellis, this is less of an issue. Finally, there’s a larger yellow flower. Be wary when building this as there are two different shades of yellow used on each petal and it’s not that easy to make this out in the instructions.

The set has been made with display in mind and it can be hung on the wall thanks to the inclusion of a wall hanger element. This was previously used in the LEGO DOTS sets and is very different to the Technic hooks features in the LEGO Art sets. As it’s the same thickness as a plate, it lets the set lay flush with the wall. Even though the hook is visible, one of the flower stems has been strategically placed to mostly cover it. It’s a fun little set, the colourful flowers pop against the green stems and the trellis trough is really well done. The only downside is the black Technic pieces which are very visible and impacts the cheerfulness of the colourful pieces of the set. The spending requirements to get the set is a little steep, but this has become the norm for substantial GWP sets. You’ll be able to get the set from April 1st with a second run planned between May 27th – June 9th.
