The LEGO Group have spent the last few years constructing their brand new campus in Billund. The new expanded space has allowed much of the LEGO Group’s long history to be gathered in one place; in the process, it has uncovered an early and abandoned design for the LEGO® Minifigure. Back in the 70s, when the minifigure as we know it today was first introduced, there was an understanding that it would appeal more to kids if they featured realistic hair. Instead of the simple hair elements, the mini LEGO characters sported some era-appropriate hairdos. Unfortunately, the concept was abandoned due to the success of the Classic Space range, and the minifigures in those sets featured helmets. LEGO Builds first discovered the tale of hairy LEGO Minifigures. So there you have it, minifigures could have been a lot hairier.
