Your recap of everything Buildapalooza is back again with this month’s issue of the Build Night Break Down. All the prizes, all the builds and all the other bits and pieces that make PerthLUG’s social night such a buzz!
Before we jump in, for those new or wishing to come along to one of our build nights, here’s the quick word. Buildapalooza is PerthLUG’s regular catch-up where on the second Monday of the month we bring along a Lego set and just build and socialise. We’re a friendly bunch from all walks of life. It’s just $5 for non-members to help keep the lights on. More details at the bottom of the page.
As is quickly becoming tradition here, let’s start off with the prizes – I know what you’re really here for! And again this month, members had the chance to win a whole bunch. We’re not talking one or two prizes but SIX! And as is aslo becoming a bit of a pattern, three of our members couldn’t make the event this month but due to their paid memberships still come home winners. Those memberships pay off nearly every month now it seems!
Members’ Draw

Wild Safari Animals 31150 (Kindly donated by The LEGO Group): Craig P
T. rex 31151 (Kindly donated by The LEGO Group): Jude W

And that’s not all for prizes, we offered up the 1517-piece Alpine Lodge 10325 as a bonus raffle open to all attendees. At just $2 each and numbers limited to 100 and one-per-person, them odds don’t seem half bad I’d say! This month’s lucky winner is Carol W! Congrats on the win!!
Moving on from prizes to some genuine content for y’all, the Parts Draft returned again with this month’s set for the sorting being the Kingfisher Bird 10331. A pretty classy looking set in its own right. What’s all this Parts Draft business about? The Parts Draft is a great way to bring along one set and take home bulk-sorted parts for your collection. If you want to know more or learn how to get involved yourself just follow us over at the PerthLUG Facebook page.
Now for my favourite part – shoving my nose into all the wonderful sets being built at Buildapalooza! This month there was a definite Halloween flavour with a new Lego Gift-with-Purchase dropping just last week. Bek was one among a few with the new Light Up Jack-o’-Lantern GWP alongside what I’ve been reliably told is a ‘Durr Burger’ – I think it’s from some little indie video game called ‘Fortnite’… On theme too was Judy with her Wednesday & Enid Brickheadz – cute! And of course, it wouldn’t be an October build night without Krista bringing along a Halloween set. This one is the adorable little Halloween Hayride set.
Brooke was building the new Star Wars Tie Fighter v X-Wing set. The ships actually look pretty decent at this scale and piece count. Glad I had the chance to see them in person. Meanwhile, Joanne’s Poinsettia Botanical makes great use of those large ninjago shuriken pieces as petals. Great to see that sort of part usage outside of Ninjago.
My personal favourite of the night had to be Jenna’s Wooden Duck 40501. You don’t see many of these around, being the limited-run exclusive it is. The duck’s bill opens and closes as it’s pulled along and it even has its own stand. I’m in love with a duck. This duck. Thanks for the cheeky pic Jenna!
Christmas is sneaking up on us again and our annual Brickmas Appeal for CanTeen WA is already underway with a ton of Lego sets rolling in with members last night. Thanks everyone! We’re so proud of our members’ generosity and the kids doing it tough really appreciate it. We’ll be accepting donations at next month’s Buildapalooza and December’s Minifigapalooza buy & sell day so you haven’t missed your chance to contribute. Small sets are great for kids to build in bed, sets just need to be new in box is all. Let’s beat last year’s epic haul team!
And that’s it for another issue of the Break Down. If you’d like to come to one of our build nights, Buildapalooza is back again next month as usual on the second Monday. That’s the 11th of November at our normal time and place; 7-11pm at John McGrath Pavilion off Hensman St, South Perth. Everyone is absolutely welcome and we hope to see you there!
