If You Are Balling On A Budget, These LEGO® Sets Can Make A Great Gift For Under $15
I think we have all found ourselves in two, extremely relatable positions: 1) You find yourself strapped for cash and a last-minute gift idea 2) You find yourself picking your jaw off the floor looking at the prices of some LEGO® sets. I am here to tell you you are not alone, and if you know where to look, there is a way around these dilemmas! Check out some of my suggestions below that might help you out of this predicament.
Heads Up! I am an Amazon affiliate marketer because I wanted to make passive income while discussing my favorite sets. I try to post it in banners all over my site, but if you click on a link and purchase, I will receive a small commission from the sale.
LEGO® Creator Mighty Dinosaur 31058
This set has been on Amazon for months at a reasonable price point of $11.99. Technically, it is $14.99, but I always see it as incredibly discounted. With 174 pieces, you get to build 3 incredible models in forest green brick coloring: A T. Rex, a Pterodactyl, and a finely design triceratops.
In total you are looking at 1-2 hours max of simple build time. But what is the real magic of this set. You can actually use 31058 to make a Starship Troopers LEGO® Arachnid, which I have a MOC video for on TikTok. I am not kidding, it looks like the real thing. I did not come up with the design, but whoever did…bless them.
LEGO® Creator 3-in-1 Space Shuttle 31134
This set has stayed at $9.97 on Amazon for a long time. I am unsure if they are going to retire it soon (I really hope they don’t). The scaled-down space Shuttle is awesome, especially considering NASA discontinued the program in 2011.
There is a bit of patriotism in this set when you build it. For me, a space buff and LEGO® fan, this set encapsulates so many of my values in a fun, 144-piece build. Expect to spend, just like the dinosaur set above, 1-2 hours completing the shuttle, then switching to build the astronaut, and then lastly trying out the final prototype spaceship (which is last because that build is a bit lackluster).
While the set is a bit barren with only 3 builds and 144 pieces, for under $10.00 on Amazon, you can’t really go wrong!
LEGO® City Go-Karts and Race Drivers 60400
I have been waiting a long time to figure out how to incorporate this set into a new post. LEGO® set 60400, featuring two Go-Kart racers celebrating in their tiny vehicles, cements itself as an adorable LEGO® set that is probably one of the smallest out there.
99 pieces is no problem for a set that will likely take you a half hour to build and half that time to steal your heart. You get two brightly colored LEGO® minifigures race drivers, a yellow Go-Kart, and a teal Go-Kart. I have to say that a major callout is how smooth the karts move on a flat surface.
For a grand total of $7.99, this set will drive into someone’s small birthday gift. It fits in the palm of your hand and is a such a great, little build.
LEGO® NINJAGO Jay’s Lightning Jet EVO 71784
I saved the best for last. LEGO® NINJAGO has been spinning itself, its builds, and its story into our lives since 2011. This set is $9.99 off Amazon and comes well within your budget. From this incredible theme, expect to spend a little under an hour building this 146 piece set.
The Jay LEGO® minifigure is expertly printed on his torso and legs, staying true to the character’s design on the NINJAGO show. Also, I think a significant callout for this set is that even with so few pieces, the lightning jet is surprisingly detailed and comes with workable stud shooters on the side. It gives it an authentic feel, and a true fan might try to spend a few hours performing a fly-by and firing the stud shooters.
This build fits in the palm of your hand and easily makes it under $15!
Whether its space, NINJAGO, race cars, or dinosaurs, this eclectic list gives you a bit of everything to choose from! Remember, while some set are ludicrously expensive, like LEGO® LOTR sets, there are sets that can make their way into your cart for well under $15.00. Be sure to bookmark this page as I will update as sets retire and prices change. Happy building!
